AI Reading Assistant – Translate & Explain ("the Extension") helps users understand English content while browsing the web through instant translations, dictionary definitions, pronunciation, vocabulary saving, and optional AI-powered explanations.

We respect your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the Extension processes and how that information is used.

Information We Process

The Extension only processes text that you intentionally select.

Selected words, sentences, or paragraphs may be processed in order to provide:

• Machine translation
• Dictionary definitions
• Pronunciation
• Vocabulary saving
• AI-powered explanations, only when you explicitly click an Explain button

The Extension does not automatically scan webpages, monitor browsing activity, or collect webpage content without your interaction.

Local Storage

The Extension stores a limited amount of information locally using Chrome Storage, including:

• Vocabulary history
• Today's looked-up words
• User preferences
• A temporary prompt used when opening ChatGPT or Claude after you click an Explain button

This information is stored only on your device. We do not operate our own servers and do not upload this information.

Third-Party Services

To provide requested functionality, selected text may be transmitted directly to one or more of the following services:

• Google Translate
• MyMemory Translation API
• DictionaryAPI.dev
• ChatGPT, only after you click "Explain with ChatGPT"
• Claude, only after you click "Explain with Claude"

These third-party services process information according to their own privacy policies. We do not control how these services handle information after it has been transmitted.

Information We Do Not Collect

The Extension does not collect or store:

• Name
• Email address
• Password
• Payment information
• Authentication credentials
• Location information
• Browsing history
• Cookies
• Personally identifiable information

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or transfer user data to advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties.

Selected text is transmitted only when required to provide a feature explicitly requested by the user.

Security

Whenever possible, communications with third-party services are transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections.

Your Control

The Extension only processes text that you intentionally select.

You may clear your locally stored vocabulary history at any time within the Extension.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any updates will be published on this page with an updated effective date.
